SPORTS FIELDS DRAINAGE
Problem: The area in question experienced water ponding, where rainwater would collect and not drain efficiently. This could be due to poor drainage, insufficient slope, or the existing drainage system being unable to handle excess water.
Solution: To address the ponding issue, a new slit drainage system was installed. Slit drainage involves creating long, narrow slits or channels in the ground, typically filled with gravel or similar material. These slits allow water to flow through the surface and into a subsurface drainage system.
The new slit drainage was connected to the existing lateral drainage system. Lateral drainage refers to horizontal drainage pipes that redirect water away from areas prone to flooding or ponding. By tying the new slit drains into this system, the overall drainage capacity of the area was improved, allowing water to be efficiently moved away.
Benefits:
- Reduced ponding: The slit drains allow water to be absorbed or redirected, reducing standing water.
- Improved water flow: The connection to the lateral drainage system enhances overall drainage performance.
- Long-term solution: Slit drainage systems are effective over time, with low maintenance requirements.
